There are reasons to appreciate PR releases from every country, as they all have something special, something found in their use of English, sometimes tortured (check the releases from Chinese car companies, which are almost as bad as the early releases from Japan) and they are sometimes veddy, veddy British. We love getting press releases from UK-based outfits. We're happy to share them in their entirety with all our English-language visitors because there's something about the Brit's use of the language, the "Queen's English", I think they call it, which, frankly, makes whatever they're writing or saying sound much more interesting than it would be if it had been written or said by some American PR squid in, say, Torrance, California ... Which is home to both American Honda and Toyota Motor Sales, USA.
And the Brits know all about this, how we Americans are so in awe of how they speak "our" language, how we hang on their every dramatically-accented word, even if they are at times completely impossible to understand, but man, whatever they're saying must be important! On my first trip to the UK, I flew from Los Angeles to Heathrow, which took about ten hours, was picked-up by a hired car at the airport and taken to Victoria Station in London, rode the train for another few hours through beautiful English countryside, which I noticed had more than a few military bases, and arrived in Manchester, home of Granada Television (I was the "wacky American presenter" for "The Motor Show"). The trip was very much like that TV show "The Amazing Race", except I was the only one on my "team".
I then took a cab to my assigned hotel. So we're talking about 20 hours of non-stop international travel by plane, train, car, cab and foot, alone, in a country I'd never been in before. And after spending about two minutes at the front desk of this hotel in Manchester, I realized I could not understand one word of what the nice young lady behind the counter was saying to me. Maybe it was the jet lag, but I knew she must be speaking English! Just a version I could not decipher ... And, by the way, another thing the Brits appreciate greatly and respect: Motorcycles! Oh, and the "birds", too! So now, on with the Suzuki GB press release, with nary a change or addition (well, just for clarification):
