DETAILS ON CHEVY'S 'VOLT' PLUG-IN HYBRID

Los Angeles Convention Center

It was announced at the 2007 LA Auto Show that Chevrolet will be wearing the "green" hat for all of General Motors, and this plug-in hybrid, now known as Volt, will be the first of its kind to go into production from GM. Chevy says the car will be most likely be charged via a standard 220 volt plug; 110 volt is in every American home and office; however, many families in the US already have "220 service" drawn into their homes and garages for electric appliances like clothes washers and dryers. And most office buildings, especially any medium- or large-sized buildings, also have 220 volt service and even higher, more powerful systems drawn into their buildings for various other uses. GM says using a 220 volt plug, Chevy's Volt will be fully-charged in six hours.
